Este barrio antiguamente era una zona pantanosa y húmeda conocida como les herbes de Llevant (las hierbas de Levante), donde los pastores llevaban a pacer al ganado. Con el tiempo los campesinos fueron saneando la zona y construyeron sus masías alrededor de la parroquia medieval de Sant Martí de Provençals. Aunque inicialmente este barrio se llamaba Taulat (bancal de siembra), los que se instalaron aquí hacia el 1800 la rebautizaron como el Poblenou, literalmente «pueblo nuevo».

La boca de metro queda a un paso de la rambla del Poblenou, que desde sus orígenes es el eje principal del barrio, primero como lugar de residencia elegido por la burguesía y ahora ocupada para muchos y muy diversos establecimientos. Con motivo de los Juegos Olímpicos de 1992, se alargó el último tramo de la rambla hasta llegar al mar.

In the old days this neighbourhood was a swampy and humid area known as the herbes de Levant (Herbs of Levant), where shepherds would take their livestock to graze. In time, however, the peasants began to clean up the area and built their farms around the medieval parish of Sant Martí de Provençals. Although at first this neighbourhood was called Taulat (sowing terrace), those who settled here around 1800 rechristened it as Poblenou, literally, “New Town” or Pueblo Nuevo.

The metro entrance is a minute away from Poblenou’s Rambla (main boulevard), which since its origins is the neighbourhood’s main axis, first as a residential area chosen by the bourgeoisie and now occupied by many and very diverse businesses. On account of the 1992 Olympics the last stretch of the Rambla was extended all the way to the sea.

Antigament aquest barri era una zona pantanosa i humida, coneguda com les herbes de Llevant, que s’utilitzava per dur-hi a pasturar el bestiar. A poc a poc, els pagesos la van començar a ocupar, la van sanejar i van construir masies al voltant de la parròquia medieval de Sant Martí de Provençals. El Poblenou inicial correspon a l’antic barri de Taulat, paraula que significa bancal preparat per a la sembra, però va ser la gent que s’hi va començar a instal·lar cap a mitjan 1800 la que el va batejar com a Poblenou.

Questo quartiere era in precedenza una zona paludosa e umida conosciuta come les herbes de Llevant (le erbe di Levante), dove i pastori portavano il bestiame a pascolare. Nel tempo, i contadini hanno disinfettato la zona e costruito le loro case coloniche intorno alla parrocchia medievale di Sant Martí de Provençals. Sebbene inizialmente questo quartiere fosse chiamato Taulat (aiuola), coloro che si stabilirono qui intorno al 1800 lo ribattezzarono Poblenou, letteralmente «nuova città».
