The French Consul
The Lesseps square receives its name in honour of Ferdinand-Marie de Lesseps i Crevinyi, who lived in a tower located in this square during his stay in the city. He was born in Versalles in 1805 and from 1842 to 1848 he was the Consul of France in Barcelona. In 1842 when Espartero, at that time the city’s regent, ordered the bombing of Barcelona, the diplomat interceded on the city’s behalf.
