A farm that turned into a palace
The Palau Reial of Pedralbes is a palace located in Diagonal Avenue which was ceded to the Spanish royal family. It was originally the Can Cuyàs farm, which was inside an enormous property of Güell family along with other houses, such as Can Feliu and Can Baldiró. It was the summer residence of the Güell’s. Throughout the years the farm kept being enlarged until it became the palace that it is today.
In 1924 Nicolau Rubió i Turdurí was put in charge of designing its gardens, in which one can admire the magnificent fountain by the famous Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí. In the same year, once the restoration work was complete, King Alfonso the Twelfth moved into the palace. Today it is the residence of the royal family when they visit Barcelona.

At the end of Exèrcit Avenue there is the big Quarter del Bruc (Heath Barracks) that was inaugurated in 1934 and since then they are military barracks. In this area you can enjoy walking in the many gardened parks or along Diagonal Avenue, but be careful with cyclists, runners and skaters who go at full speed!
